BDR Syndicates

Putting the fun into Racehorse Ownership

Welcome to our site run by National Hunt enthusiasts for National Hunt enthusiasts!

Offering affordable transparent & friendly ownership BDRsyndicates are an ambitious company with a desire to grow in the coming years.

Our team of horses are split between two highly respected trainers Graeme McPherson and Caroline Bailey. Graeme is based just outside the breathtaking Gloucestershire town of Stow on the Wold whilst Caroline trains in Holdenby, Northamptonshire.

Stewart Dudwell and Colin Burr love National Hunt racing. After many years of successful ownership within small partnerships they decided to form BDRsyndicates. The Graeme McPherson trained My Charity quickly gave the syndicate an early winner with a game hurdles victory at Warwick. But with a strong team assembled for this coming season there are high hopes of more winners flowing.

Enjoy the thrill of ownership with like minded people. Make new friendships and share the excitement of being a winning owner. BDRsyndicates will make you feel special with first class communication, stable tours, hospitality opportunities together with Racing Manager attendance on race days.

May 2021: An update from Graeme McPherson to underline how well our horses have been running this season.

About Us

Colin Burr – Joint Partner & Racing Manager

Colin has enjoyed horse racing all his life and it is his passion.  The ambition was always to own a horse himself but also to enjoy the social side of the sport.  With this in mind he entered a syndicate in 2008 and quickly saw success with a few horses trained by Alan King.   It was through these syndicates he met future business partner Stewart Dudwell.

In 2018 Colin and Stewart decided to form BDR Syndicates to share their enthusiasm for the sport.  Colin is dedicated in his role as Racing Manager with a friendly, approachable and knowledgeable manner.  In order to purchase the right stock Colin does a huge amount of homework.  The aim is always to buy the right horse that can win races but at a value price.

Married to Zoe with two teenage children the family can often be seen at their local tracks Fakenham and Huntingdon.

Stewart Dudwell – Joint Partner

Stewart is Managing Director of his own successful West Midlands based engineering business and therefore brings an abundance of experience to BDR Syndicates.

A lover of horse racing from a young age Stewart would study the form every day. Longer term there was a desire to become more heavily involved which came via syndicated ownership in horses trained by Alan King.  As the winners flowed the ambition grew which led to BDR Syndicates being formed in partnership with Colin.

Despite being busy with his family including some young grandchildren Stewart still finds time to watch Wolverhampton Wanderers and also enjoys nothing more than a game of walking football.

Our Trainers

Graeme McPherson

Having been involved in point-to-pointing and National Hunt racing in various capacities for a number of years, Graeme was keen to establish his own base from which to oversee every aspect of the training and management of the horses in his care.

In November 2009 Graeme took out a full licence. Following a period of substantial investment, the yard can now boast top-quality facilities and a standard of horse care and management that is second to none. Graeme’s philosophy is to provide a bespoke training and management programme for each horse, designed to suit their individual needs.

He is committed to providing a varied fitness and schooling programme that keeps horses fresh, interested and motivated.

This approach has resulted in the yard’s horses putting in consistently strong performances and has seen the yard succeed both with young horses and with older horses that have either failed to achieve their full potential or have gone stale, in larger, more commercial yards.

"It is always a pleasure to train nice horses for well-run syndicates filled with people who love their horses and love their racing. BDR Syndicates and their members fit that description perfectly.”

Caroline Bailey

Caroline Bailey trains in Holdenby, Northamptonshire. A family steeped in racing her father winning the 1982 Grand National on  Grittar (Dick Saunders) Caroline's mother also rode in point to points.

Caroline herself began in the pony club competing and going on to represent the British junior team at the european  championships, and then pointing. with 18 career wins under National hunt rules and being the first lady jockey to win around Cheltenham on a  horse called Ptarmigan.

After then successfully training many points winners in 2006 Caroline took out a full training license, her husband Gerald then  concentrating on the pointers to leave Caroline to build her team under rules.

As a trainer her strike rates are impressive, particularly at Huntingdon and Southwell and is well represented with some high profile  highly rated chasers in the yard. Some big race wins culminating in CROSSPARK winning the 2019 EIDER CHASE in Newcastle.  Harry Skelton often rides for her; they go back a long way. Harry spoke highly of Caroline in a recent interview after riding a double for the yard.

The yard boasts 10f grass gallops. an all weather strip and grass schooling grounds, Rural quiet location with staff that have worked for them for years. Welcoming, friendly professional BDR are delighted Caroline trains for us.

Fleur Hawes

Fleur is an experienced point to point trainer, held a license under rules and trained many winners from her South Norfolk base. Fleur also rode as a category B jockey and rode to success on numerous occasions.

We are delighted Fleur will look after our horses for convalescing, Summer grass and pre-training.

An idylic setting in the peaceful countryside, where not only can our horses be refreshed, our owners can come and visit followed by lunch and a glass at the local, all on BDR of course.

ANNIE DAY trained by the highly succesful Caroline Bailey (particularly strong with staying chasers)

6 yr old Brown Mare       Arcadio - Aunt Annie.

Annie Day is a very progressive mare from the Irish pointing field. On her last point start before her rules career she was an emphatic 12 length winner at Kilfeacle on 26th January beating New Money who has since franked the form with another good run. Annie Day jumped really well and took control of the race at an early stage to run her rivals ragged.   A mare who jumps for fun and a rating of 86 which we feel under estimates her true ability.

Annie Day will resume her chasing career with Caroline Bailey in her Holdenby yard, Northamptonshire. Caroline has a 10f grass gallop and great facilities.
